Live Closed Captioning (Beta)

Prior to this update, only manual closed captioning was supported for Cornerstone Classroom clients.

This update extends the Closed Captioning feature to now support automatic and live audio-to-text transcription for the Cornerstone Classroom App and Express clients and telephony audio streams.
Note: Currently, the Live Closed Captioning feature is in a Beta phase and will undergo changes in the upcoming releases.

Live closed captioning feature is supported only in the Cornerstone Classroom Premium Video mode.

By default, the Live Closed Captioning feature is disabled. Once the Premium Video mode is enabled, Meeting Administrators must enable the feature for their domain.
Note: To enable the Premium Video mode and live closed captioning, contact your Account Manager.

Once the feature is enabled, event leaders and co-presenters can choose to enable either manual or live closed captioning in an event by clicking the Closed Caption icon.

To enable live closed captioning, select the Live Closed Caption check box in the CC menu.

Live Closed Caption

When live closed captioning is enabled, the Live Closed Caption check box remains selected while the Select a Closed Captioner check box for manual closed captioning is hidden.

Live Closed Caption selected

The CC menu is displayed and activated in the toolbar for all co-presenters and participants. They can view subtitles and CC transcript using this menu.

When live closed captioning is enabled, the system automatically starts transcribing audio to text and any user who clicks the Show Subtitles menu option can start seeing the subtitles in the subtitle bar at the bottom of the client window. The subtitles bar disappears 10 seconds after the last closed captioning message and re-appears when the next message is received. The subtitles are also captured and displayed in the CC Transcript.

To disable live closed captioning, click the CC icon and clear the Live Closed Caption check box in the CC menu.

Using Manual Closed Captioning

For domains set to live closed captioning, event leader or co-presenter can still choose to use manual closed captioning in the event. To enable manual closed captioning, first click the CC icon and then select the Select a Closed Captioner check box in the CC menu. This opens the Attendees panel where you can right-click and assign an attendee as a closed captioner. When manual closed captioning is enabled, the Select a Closed Captioner check box remains selected while the Live Closed Caption check box for live closed captioning is hidden.

Manual Closed Captioning selected

To disable manual closed captioning, click the CC icon and clear the Select a Closed Captioner check box in the CC menu.

The remaining workflow for manual closed captioning remains the same as before.
Note: Manual closed captioning is still available in the Standard Video mode and functions as in previous release.
