Closed captioning support in the Modern Express client

In this update, the redesigned Modern Express client now supports both manual and live closed captioning. Closed captioning allows organizations to fulfil some of the accessibility requirements.

By default, both manual and live closed captioning are disabled.

Note: To enable the feature, submit a request. For more details, contact Support.

When manual closed captioning is enabled and a participant is assigned as the Closed Captioner for an event, participants attending the event in the redesigned Modern Express client get the options to show or hide closed captions and see the CC transcript. The Closed Captioner is identified by a CC icon () next to their display name.

Participants in the Modern Express client cannot be assigned as a Closed Captioner for an event.

When live closed captioning is enabled, participants attending the event in the redesigned Modern Express client get the options to show or hide closed captions and see the CC transcript. The client automatically starts transcribing audio to text.
Note: The Live Closed Captioning feature is supported only in the Premium Video mode. To enable the Premium Video mode, submit a request. For more details, contact Support.

To enable viewing closed captions, click the CC icon () in the footer. To disable captions, click the CC icon again.

When the captions are broadcasted in the event, they start appearing in the subtitles area above the footer in the Modern Express client. The subtitles bar disappears 10 seconds after the last closed captioning message and re-appears when the next message is received.
